another giveaway!

Wow...it's been giveaway-crazy around here this week! Check out this giveaway from my IRL friend Lauren, in honor of her 100th post. It's some really cute stuff from Country Girl Originals.

From the mind of Jack

I first saw this on 4 Little Men and Girly Twins and have seen it several places since. It's pretty cute so I decided to try it with Jack. My thoughts are in paranthensis.

1. What is something mommy always says to you? no when I do things bad (great).

2. What makes mommy happy? when I tell the truth and that makes God happy too. Mom, guess what? From now on I'll tell the truth (Yeah!)

3. What makes mommy sad? hmmmm...I don't know (maybe he thinks I don't get sad).

4. How does your mommy make you laugh? when I'm being a skeleton and Mommy turns around and looks at me and I go hahahaha

5. What was your mommy like as a child? don't know

6. How old is your mommy? ummmm, 90? 91? (seriously??)

7. How tall is your mommy? you are that tall (raises his hand really high...yes!)

8. What is her favorite thing to do? that is tricky...working on the computer.

9. What does your mommy do when you're not around? work in the kitchen and clean up the kitchen and get out the silverware

10. If your mommy becomes famous, what will it be for? that is tricky...I don't know!

11. What is your mommy really good at? putting away the dishes

12. What is your mommy not very good at? doing things by yourself. (that's whay I'm always telling him that we need to practice!)

13. What does your mommy do for a job? you get lunch ready for us, dinner ready for us, snack ready for us, and breakfast and all things we like to eat

14.What is your mommy's favorite food? green beans and brocoli

15.What makes your mommy proud of you? by me helping you

16. If your mommy were a cartoon character, who would she be? ummm, you would be a princess if you were watching a Princess movie.(Yes!)

17. What do you and your mommy do together? We unload the dishwasher together and put away things together. (apparently, I spend wayyyy too much time in the kitchen).

18. How are you and your mommy the same? Well, we don't look the same everyday because everytime I wear a different color you wear a different color. But we do have the same color skin. (they have been talking about differences in school in case you can't tell).

19. How are you and your mommy different? Beacuse ever day we wear a different color.

20. How do you know your mommy loves you? Hugging and kissing me.

21. What does your mommy like most about your daddy? Daddy goes to work.

22. Where is your mommy's favorite place to go? Target (totally not true!)

The Drs. Powell

My kids were pretending to be dentists today. I asked Jack what dentists do. He said, "They show people how to brush their teeth and they take pictures of their teeth." Pretty accurate from a kid who hasn't been to the dentist but once, and that was a year ago, and he was screaming throughout the exam. We never got to the taking pictures of his teeth part.

This is how they teach their patients to brush their teeth. That little pink blur is Melody. She thinks that jumping up and down is an important component of teeth brushing.

You can see they each have a backpack or a suitcase.
This is because they go to people's houses and they need their supplies, such as kitchen utensils they call toothbrushes, My Little Pony gear, and race cars.
You will notice that they each have a "bib" around them. Their bibs are their blankies. Yes, Jack's does have little pink flowers on them and yes this does drive my husband crazy. He has issues with certain things Jack has or enjoys doing...but that's really material for another post.
I think they're ready for Dental School, no?

See Kai Run Giveaway

I discovered See Kai Run shoes when my friend Krystyn had a giveaway. Besides being adorable, these shoes promote healthy foot development for those little feet we love.

Jack O'Powell

Jack had a blast celebrating St. Patty's Day at school. Especially since they caught a leprechaun. Unfortunately, this was after the leprechaun knocked over the Kangaroos' (the other 4-year preschool class) garbage. Since Jack is a master of all things neat and orderly, we are still hearing about the horrors of the garbage can being disturbed. Jack's still not exactly sure what the leprechaun looked like, however he did hear him laugh. He's been mimicking it ever since.

psf - t minus 6 and counting

Today, my littlest baby boy is halfway to 1. Half of his first year is over. We're having a little Charlie celebration this weekend. In the past, I haven't been big on celebrating the 6 month mark...after all, it's not a real birthday. But this is my last baby and I'm the mommy; I can do whatever I want.

I just want to know how we went from

here

to here

so quickly?

Time has been flying by me. I wish I could freeze it so we could enjoy this time in our life a little bit longer...

Charlie's personality is beginning to shine through.

He loves his fingers and toes.

He loves his wagon wheels and homemade baby food. He does not love the bottle and refuses to take one. (Yes, please feel sorry for me).

He had his first swing experience last week.

Like my other two, he has a special relationship with his paci.
This is what he looks like when, while playing on the floor, he realizes that Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is on.

And he especially loves to laugh and smile!
Happy 1/2 birthday Charlie! You make our family complete and we love you!

100

This is my 100th post!

In honor of my 100th post, I'm going to explain an obsession of mine. I'm obsessed with numbers. It's kind of weird, and I try to keep it in check so I don't freak people out. But, I'm going to come clean today.

There's also a surprise at the bottom. But you have to read all about my number obsession first. I know, I'm cruel.

Numbers are a big deal to me. I like even numbers and my favorite numbers are 4, 8, and 12.

Individual numbers aren't actually all that important; what's more important is the way that they are grouped. Odd numbers belong together and even numbers belong together. I don't necessarily have to have control over the numbers; I just have to feel like there is some semblance of order or meaning I can derive from them.

This being said, I gave a lot of thought to my kids birthdays.

Jack's due date was 6.2.04. Works for me. They are all even and 4 is my ultimate favorite number and 6 minus 2 is 4. Ahhh. Perfect. Of course, he didn't come then. He actually came on 6.4.04. Even better. Two 4s. At 8:42 p.m. no less. After my ridiculously long and hard labor with him resulting in a C-section, I deserved some good numbers.

Melody's due date was 2.12.07. Not a whole lot I could do about the year. But the 2 and the 12 were good. Since I would be having a repeat C-section, I knew that date wasn't really that important. When it came time to schedule her birthday, the doctor was available on 1.30.07. I also made that work. See, 1 and 07 are both odd so that grouped them together. 30, being even, tied her to Jack who had all even numbers in his birthday. She was born at 8:30 a.m. as well. The 8 is even and ties in with Jack too and the 30 works with her birthday.

Charlie's numbers were all over the board. My due date changed several times, but I knew that date wasn't really important anyway. In July, we scheduled my C-section for 9.30.08. This number worked for me. The 08 was even and 4 years past Jack's birth year. The 30 tied him to Melody, and even though 30 is even, 3 is odd so that tied the 9 in.

**Yes, I know this is totally weird and I'm a complete wacko.**

Anyway, so I had made peace with those numbers. However, about a week or two before then, I started feeling like I wasn't going to be able to make it that long. I met with my doctor and had another ultrasound and the decision was made to move the date up a bit. We looked at moving it up to 9.25.08. This number was pretty significant because it 9.25 is my great-granddaddy's birthday. His name was Eli. Charlie's name is Charles Eli. Immediately I felt like that was Charlie's date. However, there were some scheduling conflicts and I couldn't get that date. Instead I had to settle for 9.26.08. Kind of a disaster for me. I mean, the 9 is left all alone. There is no other odd number in that group. On top of that I could find no connection to that date. I obsessed and obsessed. Finally my friend Lauren and my mom both told me that it didn't matter if that number flowed or connected to anything. That date would be important to me because it would be Charlie's birthday.

Of course, 9.26.08 came and Charlie was born at 6:11 that evening (another number I couldn't tie into anything). I love that date now. I don't really care that it's not connected to anything. Until the other day when I realized it is connected to something. It's actually connected to something pretty big...

9.26.08 is the date I gave birth to my last child.
9.26.03 is the date I discovered I was pregnant with my first.
How cool is that!?

Just so I seem weirder, that is exactly a 5 year difference.

If you want a little challenge, here you go. At some point in each of my pregnancies, I found a Bible verse for that child. These were verses that are important to me now and were significant to me during that time. They all can be tied into my children's birth dates. The numbers also tie all the kids together. Do you see how?
Jack - Psalm 118:24
Melody - Psalm 100:5
Charlie - Psalm 9:1

Ok, so that's my weird issue with numbers. Thanks for reading all that. It was long. And strange. I hope you'll still follow me now that you know the truth...

On to the fun stuff...I'm having a giveaway! I'll announce the giveaway on my 104th post. That will be in just a few days so make sure you check back. I'm not going to give any hints, but believe me, it's cool.

random picture challenge and catching up

Here's this weeks random picture challenge courtesy of

3rd Folder, 1st picture with the color brown

This was a hard challenge because I really wasn't into brown that year! This was the only picture with any brown! Can you see where the brown is?

This was May of 2006. We were at Webb and Lindsey's wedding in Dothan, AL. I posted a few more pictures just beacuse we had such a fabulous weekend. My mom kept Jack for us...he was not quite two yet. Alex and I got to Dothan early Friday in time for the guys to play golf and Stephanie and I to catch some rays in Panama City before the reherseal dinner. Saturday we hit the beach again, this time with the guys and our friends Chip and Luann. Yes, I got a shrimp po'boy at some point. I don't go near the beach without getting at least one!

Saturday night was the wedding. It was definitely one of the top 3 contenders for "best wedding I've ever been too"...excluding mine, of course, which takes the cake hands down. The bride and groom were completely in love.

We saw lots of old friends and partied well into the night. Definitely one of those weekends that were so good we still talk about it!

Oh, and if you haven't figured it out yet...my sunglasses are the 'brown' in the photograph!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, on to other stuff. I feel like I have been MIA. This week was super busy for me. It was Kindermart week. Kindermart is the fundraiser for Jack's preschool. This year I got roped into joining the committee. It was a blast, but took a lot of time. A lot. Along with my first year as a committe member, this is the first year I have shopped too. I have heard stories of great consignment sale buys but am not the best bargian shopper due my extreme lack of patience mild impatience. However, as a committee member, one of my perks was getting to shop early. So, since there were no other crazied and seasoned consignment shoppers people to deal with, I browsed around a bit.

This is my favorite purchase. A Cozy Coupe. I actually go two. One for our house and one for my parent's place. Do you know what these things retail for? Amazon.com has them listed for $49.99. I paid less than $20 for each. My kids were thrilled and have been playing with them non-stop.

My other favorite purchse was this hat for Melody. She's been wanting a baseball hat like her brothers. I found this one; it's Gymboree (which is pretty much my favorite store) and it still had the tags on it! Deal! It's hard to tell in the picture, but it's yellow gingham and has a little purple and green pineapple on the side. It also ties in the back instead of the regular baseball hat look. She looks adorable in it even though it makes her look like she has even less hair! And more importantly, it'll help keep the sun off her fair skin.
I did get another fun toy for Jack but that's for another post. It comes with a funny story and a video.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a brief Charlie update. We have made more paci progress! Yes! Friday afternoon when I went to get him up from his nap he had a different paci in his mouth than the one I laid him down with. Yes, friends, he put the paci in by himself while in the crib.
I believe this was the turning point for him because last night he slept for 12.5 hours STRAIGHT. Which means that I got 8 whole hours of sleep at one time. I felt like a new woman. I felt like I was 29 again.

We'll see if this trend continues. I've bragged about it so much I've probably jinxed myself and he'll wake up 3 times tonight.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lastly and most importantly the Twilight DVD was released today. Ahhh, I'm looking forward to my Edward fix tonight.Feel free to stare at him as long as necessary and go here if you need more.

psf - time for honesty

Today I am 30.
I know, I know, you were all thinking I was just 24. But it's time for me to be honest.
I'm am *choke* *gag* *cough* 30.
Ugh.

I have not been looking forward to this day.
I liked being in my 20s.

It's when I met my husband.
It's when I still looked good in a bathing suit.

I had a lot of great accomplishments; graduating college, marriage, children.

The four happiest days of my life took place in my 20s.

Am I ready to move on? *sigh* I guess so. After all, I do love where I'm at now. These cuties bring a lot more joy, happiness, and excitement than anything else ever will. I get to spend my 30s with them. What could be better than that? I just hope time can slow down a little...these guys were just itty-bitty babies yesterday!

My husband is the king of great homemade cards. He's creative and always puts it in perspective for me.

This is what the card he gave me this morning said.

30 is just a number
The fact that you are such a GREAT wife, mother, and friend means so much more.
And the best part is that we get to spend all of your second thirty years together.

Once you put it that way, how can I not love 30?

can you do this at night too!?

The other day Charlie was playing when I looked over and saw this...

Yep! He finally got his paci in his mouth!! I witnessed him doing it 3 times that afternoon. If only he would start doing it at night too.
