Best Day Ever!!

In the fall, our weekends are pretty busy.  Between birthday parties, gymnastics, the boys' flag football games, SEC football games, etc, it seems we are always on the go. 

 

This weekend, we had a semi-reprieve from all the busyness.  No birthday parties on Saturday and Melody's gymnastics was cancelled due to a meet being held at the gym. 

 

So, the only big event on our calendar was the boys' regularly scheduled football games combined with their team photos being taken.  Since Melody and I had no real part in that we decided to treat ourselves to a little girl time.

 

So....

 

We road tripped it to Auburn for the day for some mommy/daughter bonding (which means we had a great time shopping at the cute stores in Auburn) and some AUBURN football!

 

Melody is, by far, my favorite shopping partner.  She always tells me I look great and encourages me to buy whatever I like.

After lunch at an Auburn favorite, Momma G's, we joined up with friends for some fun tailgating.  And what is tailgating without some tree climbing?

 

We meet up with friends for Tiger Walk.

 

 

 

 

 

And we went to the game.  I had no idea Melody was so into football.  She was captivated by the game. And her popcorn, chips, cotton candy, and strawberry frozen lemonade.  Don't judge. I only got her the popcorn.  She just so cute, all the people we were with just wanted to treat her to all kinds of things!

 

 

But, seriously.  She watched the whole game.  Asked questioned.  Cheered like crazy.  When we left, and before she crashed in the car, she proclaimed this the

Best Day Ever!!!
 

 I think that about sums it up.

Take me out to the ball game

Saturday we traveled to Auburn for their baseball game against Tennessee.

Yes, we now take up a whole row. And yes, no one other than me was looking at the camera.

Notice how Alex was holding down Charlie's seat so it wouldn't flip back up on him. He didn't really like it when that happened.

We almost melted in the heat, but had a blast.

While our 18-0 win might have been the highlight for some people, meeting Aubie was the highlight for Jack and Melody.

Charlie was on the fence about Aubie. Right up until this picture was taken...and then he decided he wanted nothing to do with Aubie.

PSF and Tiger Meat

We're down to the wire.

Despite a rather dismal football season up to this point

these last two games can make it or break it.

They are our biggest rivals.

And in the Powell house, emotions run especially high this weekend

when we play kick some Georgia Bulldog butt!

(As my extended family are Dawg fans).

We've already got our game face on!

PSF and a little pep talk

Anyone who follows football knows that Auburn has royally sucked played less than stellar games the past two weeks.

We play LSU this week. We do not like LSU. They are corndogs.

Good or bad, we are loyal fans through and through! Let's hear it for Auburn and hope that we can bring it this Saturday!!!

PSF and the war eagle song

One of the first songs Jack learned how to sing was the Auburn Fight Song.

And like a true fan, he just wanted to sing it again and again.

Since we are playing Arkansas this weekend, I thought this would be a good time to post this.

A day at the fair

We went to the North Georgia State Fair this weekend.

It's our second year going. The kids had a blast last year and had even more fun this year.
Last year I was 9 months pregnant with Charlie so I had more fun this year too!

We got to ride all kinds of fun rides

and even

see an elephant show. (Or El-o-pant as Melody says it!)

We posed with barnyard animals, such as a turkey

pet a horse

and watched chickens run around.

And, of course, people watched. There are a lot of, um, interesting people at the fair. I didn't actually take pictures since I was too busy trying not to loose my children taking pictures of my children, but I will tell you that if you wanted to see some interesting people, there were always a lot of them at this booth.

Notice all our Auburn gear? We played Tennessee Saturday night and WON (despite their cheap touchdown at the end!)
That W put us at 5-0 and ranked us #17 in the AP poll!
We play Arkansas next weekend so let's hope we can keep it up!

PSF and more Auburn football

This week Cecily has teamed up with Lolli at Better in Bulk and together they have brought Photo Story Friday to a new dimension.

I know there's actually nothing amazing about this picture.

I'm just really not that great a photographer.

(Although I would be if I had a better camera and learned how to do things with it that include using vocabulary words such as lens, shutter, and apertures.)

I took this picture in September 2008. It was the first Auburn game of the worst season ever season and I was 9+ months pregnant with Charlie.

However, we are on week two of a new season with a new coach and Auburn is undefeated (yes, I am aware we've only played one game, but undefeated is undefeated) so I just had to post a football related photo!

I did actually edit this picture a little bit using all the limited knowledge great Picasa skills I possess.

For me, it's the emotion and sentiment that I love about this image.

Auburn football and tailgating during football season is one of the first traditions Alex and I began as a couple after we were married. Alex is fortunate enough to go to the majority of home games and the kids and I tailgate frequently and attend at least one and sometimes two games each year.

When I look at this picture:

• I think about how much Jack loves to wear his football gear.

• I think about walking to the stadium singing our fight song and cheers and how, for most of the season, it's usually hotter than hell, but we don't care and we're just having a blast.

• I think about how Melody is getting older and more into it as well. She loves wearing her cheerleader outfit and chants right along with us. Charlie's clapping along too and it won't be long before Alex is teaching him how to catch a football.

• I think about how much we love our university and how we spend a lot of the tailgating time just talking about college experiences and telling and re-telling stories.

• I think about how much I love to go back to Auburn every year where each fall we meet up with old friends who we haven't seen since the previous fall.

• And despite the fact that I do not like to think of my kids growing up in any fashion, I think about how much Alex and I want them to go to Auburn too so we can keep this tradition going!

We have our first conference game this week when we play Mississippi State.

Unfortunately, I'll miss the game.

Fortunately, I'll be in Cancun on a romantic vacation with my husband and probably won't be thinking about football. Hopefully he won't be thinking about football either.

We rang in the 2009-2010 college football season yesterday in true form; tailgating!

We had a blast wearing our Auburn gear
