"Who" is that!?

If you have elementary aged children, you probably know that it's the infamous Dr. Seuss's birthday tomorrow!

Melody's class is celebrating with a whole week of Dr. Seuss, starting with a bonus day today!

They had to dress up as their favorite character?

Can you guess "Who" she picked??

It's only fitting of course, because as we've seen before, she's cearly more Who than Powell!

A new hair-do and a sneak preview

After waiting three and half long years, I finally got to say to say these six words...

Melody, you really need a haircut!

If you read my blog regularly, you've probably noticed that her hair has actually gotten thicker and longer in the past few months. And, along with this insane summer heat, it was time for something a bit shorter and more stylish.

So, off we went on an impromptu trip to the beauty salon. The stylist cut off more than 2 inches! I almost fainted when I saw the hair falling to the floor. However, I'm very happy with the end result.

After all, what could be more stylish than the ever classic bob?

I know I'm a little biased, but I think she looks just adorable!

And the sneak peek in this post is a little hint of Melody's wall color.
I'm sorry it's not the best photo but with a little girl that can barely sit still, I have to take what I can get.
Melody's room will be finished in a week or so, so stay tuned for the big reveal!

PSF and 24

Tomorrow is my 31st 24th birthday.

I used to love my birthday. That feeling ended last year. I'd rather stay in my 20s than receive presents.

So, in order to keep perspective, today I'm listing 31 24 things I'm thankful for.

24. Chocolate. Who doesn't love that.

23. Peanut butter. It's the perfect chocolate accessory.

22. Jillian Michael's workouts. They allow me to overindulge in number 23 & 24.

21. The first day of school.

20. Sleeping babies.

19. Purses. Who doesn't love to shop for purses?

18. Shoes. If I'm not shopping for a purse, I'm shopping for shoes.

17. The beach

16. Dressing up.

15. Jewelry. I love jewelry. (hint hint, honey.)

14. Auburn football.

13. Vampires.

12. Werewolves.

11. Spaghetti.

10. Swimming.

9. A bad hair day because it means we have hair!

8. Best friends.

7. Funny faces.

6. Going out to dinner.

5. Luke.

4. This big boy.

3. This little boy.

2. This adorable girl.
1. The best husband ever!

PSF and Stages

If you read my blog regularly, you know that Melody's hair (or lack thereof) is an obsession of mine a topic I've briefly touched on.

When she was a baby her baldness didn't bother me. After all, tons of babies are bald. Who needs hair with eyes that bright and cheeks that sweet anyways?

At age 1, I started to wonder where the hair was. After all, even Jack had a little at 1!
"Don't worry," people assured me. "My baby was bald until one and then her hair came in like crazy!"

Um, yeah, that didn't happen for us. At 18 months, I forced Melody to wear a bow precariously clipped to six stands of hair after several comments of "do you know what you're having?"
And upon answering "boy" would hear, "Wow, three boys. How wonderful!"
Apparently a dress is not a dead giveaway.

As we hit the two year mark, those six long strands had grown a teeny bit more and multiplied into about 36 strands of which I would divide into two microscopic pigtails.
(I know. I have no idea how I got the rubberband wrapped around them either.)
By this time, people had stopped assuring me her hair would eventually come in and just looked on me with pity instead.

Finally at 2 1/2 we started seeing her hair not only get longer but a little thicker as well.
In the past six months all the reassuring promises of "soon she'll have such long thick hair" have finally started coming true!

Kind of.
Yes, I realize this is probably about as much hair as your 15 month old has, but believe me, for us, this is a full head of hair!

So you can imagine how thrilled I was when Melody came in the other day and said, "Mama, mah hair is in mah eyes!"

PSF and growing up

Last week, as we celebrated Charlie's first birthday, I thought about what a different a year makes in the lives of small children.

A few weeks ago, Melody celebrated her friend, Kate's, third birthday.

Here she is at Kate's party, waiting patiently for her chocolate iced cupcake, Kate's favorite. Notice her cute ponytail poking out of her princess crown.
She wastes no time diving right in, starting at the top where the good stuff is.
Can I have another one?

What a change from Kate's party last year!

She has so much more hair now, don't you think?
(Oh yeah, and she's a little bit neater too!)

monthly craft challenge - monogram

To say I'm not a crafty person would be an understatement! Seriously, I can barely tie a ribbon around a present. In fact, I can barely wrap a present, which explain why the vast majority of presents I give are given in a gift bag. However, Heidi at Blue Eyed Blessing seems to be able to bring out the little bit of craftiness I possess and I'm participating in this month's challenge.

The challenge is monogram. Heidi has defined a monogram as a design composed of one or more letters, typically the initials of a name, used as an identifying mark. Hopefully what I'm entering will count. Remember, I'm a crafty newbie so don't be cruel.
A while ago, I realized that all of Melody's hairbows were just a jumbled mess, haphazardly clipped on to an old ribbon in her room. Y'all know how happy I am that we finally have enough hair to actually use a hair bow and I wanted my sparse growing collection of hair bows properly displayed. After searching Etsy (a site I have only recently discovered, by the way) for hair bow holder, I suddenly realized I could make one myself. So, off I went to Michaels. There were quite a lot of options to choose from, however, given that this is pretty much my first craft project (not counting the silly little sticker crafts I always do with my children to keep them entertained)
I decided to keep it simple and do an 'M'. After choosing my letter, I moved on to craft paint. Again I looked at all the options that lay in front of me, but my inexperience again go the best of me. I just choose pink. Here's where I got bold; yes, the ribbon I choose does in fact have a pattern on it! A little foam brush and a glue gun and I'm ready to get crafty.
Simple or not, I'm pretty happy with the result. Melody's bows are nicely displayed and I'm proud of myself for actually creating something (maybe?) worth blogging about. This is despite the fact that I did glue part of the ribbon on backwards. Thankfully it's the part that hangs and I don't think it's that noticeable.

Oh and let me just give a little shout out to whoever invented the glue gun. That, my friends, is an ingenious invention. Not only did it do an amazing job attaching the ribbon to my wooden letter, but it has proven to be durable enough to withstand the excitement of a two-year-old. My husband even used it it fix a few broken things around the house. Instead of "where's the duct tape" he's asking where the glue gun is!

I know this is small bones to many of you, but for me, making this was quite a feat! Hopefully I'm on my way to many more fun craft projects.

In fact, I was recently scouring Etsy for a ribbon board for Melody's room. Those also looked like something I might could try making myself. I even googled "ribbon memory board" and a DIY website came up with step by step instructions. However, there were a few craft supplies that I had never heard of and had no idea where to find them, so I think I might need to stick to my simple glue gun activities until I perfect my skills a bit!

Oh, and when I showed it to Melody she responded with her current catch phrase, "Oh, it's so cute!"

A picnic at the park is...

The perfect excuse to show off an new outfit!

With its cute buttons
Sweet, ruffly seersucker
and matching hair bows

Not to mention the cute little girl wearing it!

How could I not show it off!?

I have actually had this outfit for over a year, patiently waiting for Melody to grow into it. I intended on dressing her in it at the beach but forgot! We had our Sunday School family picnic this afternoon and decided it the was perfect occasion to break in a new outfit! It is red, white and blue so you'll probably see it again on the 4th of July!

the haircut

Lately, I have been bemoaning the fact that Jack is growing up so fast; he's almost 5 and will be in kindergarten this fall! Don't get me wrong, I'm excited that he's growing up and learning so many new things, but every now and then, just a little bit, I miss the baby that he once was.

Alex, on the other hand, is thrilled he's growing up. In fact, the older our children get, the happier Alex seems to get.

It seems that this is a common occurrence; the mommies miss their babies and the daddies are thrilled their babies are growing up.

Alex has been trying his best to talk me into getting Jack's hair cut short lately. You know, really short. Buzz short. He seems to think I keep his hair too long. I think it's a sweet little boy cut. "He's a man, not a baby, " is Alex's response to that. You can be the judge (but I'm pretty sure you'll agree with me).
Today I relented and let him cut his hair. Well, Alex didn't actually cut it himself; we too him to Big League Barbers where he usually goes. I didn't let Alex get him the army buzz, but it's pretty short. (Sorry the pictures are poor quality...I took them with my phone).
Of course, as his mother, I'm biased, but I think he looks handsome no matter what. And a shorter cut will certainly be more cooler in the summer. And it will be nice not to have to comb it to the side every morning, only to have his stick-straight bodiless fine hair fall right back across his forehead in a matter of seconds. Or less.
What a handsome
, almost 5 year old!!

And I'm also thinking that his shorter hair will give the illusion that Melody's hair is longer.
No?
