Last year....

So two weeks ago, I pledged to blog more.

And I'm determind to get a year-in-review post in here before Febrary.

So...get ready beacuse here it is!

In January someone celebrated their 4th birthday and got a big-girl bike!

We had more lost teeth

And a visit with our favorite family!

We saw the BCS National Trophy

And went to Colorado for Uncle Ben and Aunt Bekah's wedding

Alex and I ran the Warrior Dash again

 Someone turned 7

And we did lots of strawberry and blackberry pickin'.

We also went to the beach

Visited with our Florida friends again

And then went back to the beach.

We got even further away from the baby stage when this little guy got potty trained.

Melody and Charlie we asked to model for my friend Sherry's awesome line of children's clothing and are now famous and being offered modeling contracts all over the world. Ok, I might have exaggerated that last part...

Four out of five Powells went back to school...including this little guy who started preschool this year!

We cheered

And played football

And celebrated a third birthday with cupcakes

Our favorite family come to visit again and we had fun with our friendly rivalry

At Thanksgiving we got to meet our new cousin, Holden Luke

And then watch him get baptized in December

We went on a ski trip to Beaver Creek, CO. Jack learned how to ski backwards and Melody thought riding the gondola was more fun than skiing.

And then we wrapped up our busy 2011 with a great Christmas at home!

Can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for us!

True Story Tuesday and the gift

Time for True Story Tuesday over at Once Upon A Miracle!

Before Christmas, Melody's preschool lets all the kids "shop" for their parents. They have a little "Santa Shop" set up, the kids come in with a dollar and "buy" donated gifts for their parents.

It's super cute. When they bring their (wrapped) gift home most of them cannot contain their excitement and spill the beans right away.

Jack was one of those kids.
His first year of preschool he immediately told Alex he got him "sompin that you put da muney in." It was a John Deere bank!

Melody, however, didn't say a word. She's actually not some phenomenal secret keeper, she's just kind of indifferent. Her theory is; if it's not a cupcake, I just don't care that much.

So, Alex was really surprised when he opened his gift.

Yes, that's a car air freshener. A Georgia car air freshener to be precise. Which is totally ironic since we're about the biggest Auburn fans ever.

Alex asked her why she got him a Georgia car air freshener. (This was after Jack looked at it and exclaimed, "Dad, we hate Georiga!)

"It's not goes in da car. It fo-ur da twee. Here. You wet me hang it up hi-gh."

Yes, Melody got her daddy a Christmas tree ornament designed to make our tree smell like a new car (or a taxi cab). I'm not sure if it will be Alex's favorite ornament, but I know we'll hang it on the tree every year!

Gingerbread Madness

Since Jack had been asking for weeks to make a gingerbread house, and eat it, I finally gave in.

Last week, while we were in Jackson, they made gingerbread houses and ate them.

Yummy looking, I know. And they ate every last sugary bite.

They didn't save Charlie a bite either. Fortunately, he was happy to just get a graham cracker. He's so easy to please.

PSF and a photography lesson

One of our Thanksgiving traditions is taking a photo for our annual Christmas card.

The picture on the card (or pictures if it's one of those years where getting my children to all look at the camera at the same time with pleasant if not smiling expressions on their faces is just not going to happen forcing me to use individual, albeit adorable, photographs) always looks wonderful.

But, for every amazing photo we get, there are the ones that just don't make it.

So, I give you the anti-Christmas card photos.

One rule of a good Christmas card photo is that the subjects have to be able to stand still.

Sadly, my boys haven't acquired that skill yet.

Then, of course, there's the traditional someone-looks-drunk-photo. This time it was Melody. Those candy canes go straight to their heads, you know.

Looking at the camera is also another strong Christmas card photo characteristic.

Not happening here

and happening a little too much here.

Then there's the picture where one person is looking but the other two aren't.

Then one looks (kind of) and one closes his eyes and one decides to just leave.

And then this. This is the "I'm done" shot. Which, incidentally, reminds me of this. *Shudder*

Fortunately these are not the only shots we got...stay tuned!
